Vista/Windows 7 compatability
This software has not been tested on Vista or Windows 7, although Microsoft's documentation indicates that there should not be any compatability problems running this software on these systems. Although, since Vista and Windows 7 put new restrictions on directory access, and since the Pyramids program does create and modify an HPNPYR.INI file in either the Windows or installation directory, we suspect it may be necessary to run the program in Windows XP SP3 compatability mode and/or with administrator privleges to get it to work in on these systems (right-click on the HPNPYR.EXE icon in Windows Explorer or the shortcut icon and select Properties, Compatability). Please feel free to contact us to let us know of any problems you may be experiencing if you have tried using the pyramids software on a Vista or Windows 7 computer.
Supported versions
Only versions 98.01.1.6.14 and later are supported (you can find the version number by going to the Help menu and clicking, About). All older unsupported versions should be replaced with the latest version. If you have not yet upgraded to the latest version, please contact us at support@hpntech.com for upgrade details.
Uninstalling
- If you initially installed an early version of the software: Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, scroll down, select HPNPYR, and click on Remove.
- If you try the above and HPNPYR is not listed in the Add/Remove program list, this means you initially installed a later version of the software. To uninstall, simply delete the HPNPYR.exe from whatever directory you unzipped it to. If you created any shortcuts to the program (for example a desktop shortcut) delete them also.
Program fails to start with an error 5.
- Cause 1: This problem has been found to occur on systems that may have become infected with a virus that corrupted the hpnpyr.ini file in either the windows directory and/or the directory that the HPNPYR.exe file was installed in. Try deleteing the hpnpyr.ini file(s) and re-starting the software (note: deleteing the hpnpyr.ini file will require you to re-enter your serial number and will cause you to lose any default settings you may have set).
- Cause 2: The original version of this software was written as a 16-bit program. As such it may not be able to access files beyond the first 2GB of a hard disk. If the first 2GB of the hard disk on which Windows was installed is completely full, or if the hpnpyr.ini file was re-located beyond the first 2GB of the hard disk via a de-fragmentation procedure, the program may fail to start. An updated 32-bit version of the program is available. If you are using an older unsupported version earlier than 98.01.1.6.14 (in Windows Explorer, right-click on hpnpyr.exe and select "properties", "version") please contact us at support@hpntech.com for upgrade details.
- Cause 3: The system variable "windir" is not set preventing access to hpnpyr.ini. An updated 32-bit version of the program is available which works around this problem by placing hpnpyr.ini in the same directory that the applicaiton was installed in if it cannot locate "windir". If you are using an older unsupported version earlier than 98.01.1.6.14 (in Windows Explorer, right-click on hpnpyr.exe and select "properties", "version") please contact us at support@hpntech.com for upgrade details.
Errors when saving files/Can't find files to retrieve.
The original version of this software was written as a 16-bit program. As such it may not be able to access files beyond the first 2GB of a hard disk. If the first 2GB of the hard disk on which a file is to be saved is completely full, or if an input file was re-located beyond the first 2GB of the hard disk via a de-fragmentation procedure, the program may fail to save or retrieve the file. An updated 32-bit version of the program is available. If you are using an older unsupported version earlier than 98.01.1.6.14 (in Windows Explorer, right-click on hpnpyr.exe and select "properties", "version") please contact us at support@hpntech.com for upgrade details.
