Downloading Instructions
This software is currently no longer supported, however, continues to be provided "as is" for those who still wish to make use of it. See our technical note for further restrictions of the software on newer computers.
In order to help cover costs of Internet distribution, HPN Technologies, Inc. is distributing package under the following conditions:
For developed countries: You may use the software free for a two week evaluation period. To continue using the software after the evaluation period, we request a payment of US$75 (plus appropriate sales tax for NY or WA states). A copy of the publication Birth Rates and Birth Control Practice will be sent upon receipt of payment. A reduced payment of US$15 is available for students, but this payment does not include a copy of the publication, which must be purchased separately if desired.
For developing countries: The above payments apply, if possible. However, if budget restrictions are a problem, organizations and students in developing countries may legally continue to use the software without paying the requested fees.
Printed manuals.:
Copies of the publication Birth Rates and Birth Control Practice may be ordered for US$20 each. The program be purchased for US$85, which includes one copy of the publication.
Payment:
All checks from outside of the US must be in US$ and drawn on a US Bank. (We are charged a bank fee of $50 to cash checks not drawn on a US Bank! Therefore, we cannot process any orders with checks not in US$ or not drawn on a US bank.) Checks should be made out to:

Re-Distribution/Copying:
HPN Technologies Inc. strongly recommends getting the TABRAP/CONVERSE package directly from it's web site at http://www.hpntech.com/popsite or via direct purchase from HPN Technologies Inc. If you do recieve a copy of the package from a source other than HPN Technologies, Inc. you are still responsible for the above fees should you decide to use the software. If you have the software and give a copy to someone else, the readme.txt file must be part of the package.
If you have a web site, you may point to the location of the TABRAP/CONVERSE files at http://www.hpntech.com/popsite from your page. However, you may not put copies of the package locally on your web site for re-distribution.
Files:
The following files are available on the Internet.
readme.txt (size: 8,886 bytes)
program.zip (size: 816,291 bytes)
Uncompress the ZIP format files as follows:
pkunzip -d program.zip destination
where "destination" is the location on your hard disk where you want the files to go. All files will decompress into a subdirectory \TCA of the "destination". It is recommended that you decompress to the root, of your hard disk, that is:
pkunzip -d program.zip c:\
which will decompress all files into the subdirectory \TCA off of your c: root directory. (Note: this will not decompress into the root directory itself.)
Installation:
Once you have downloaded the files, you are ready to use the system. The only installation really required is to put C:\TCA in the PATH statement of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
The following files will be in your TCA directory:
*.EXE The 10 programs in the package
README.* General descriptions of the programs
(README.TXT being this file)
???BLD.EXE 10 programs used to create/edit input
files. For example, TABBLD creates an
input file for TABRAP, CONBLD creates
an input file for CONVERSE, etc.
INPUT.* Sample input data for the 10 programs.
VIEW.EXE A small utility for viewing output files.
PRINTER.TXT Instructions on setting up printer.
*.PRN Sample printer definition files.
You may run the programs as follows:
program [ENTER]
For example, TABRAP. This will start the program and prompt you for the names of input and output files. (WARNING: OUTPUT FILES WILL OVERWRITE WITHOUT WARNING ANY EXISTING FILE WITH THE SAME NAME).
You may also run the program as follows:
program input-file output-file
For example:
TABRAP INPUT.TAB TABRAP.OUT
Note: if you have not put the installation directory (for example, C:\TCA) in your path, you must either be in the installtion directory to run the programs, or specify the complete directory path (for example, C:\TCA\TABRAP).
The output file may also be a device such as PRN or LPT1 to send output directly to a printer.
Printing:
Most of the programs in the TABRAP/CONVERSE package require 132 line printing. See the file PRINTER.TXT for instructions on how to send printer control characters to your printer, if necessary.
